How You Can Help at Our Homeless Centre
LUNCHTIME DROP IN
Could you offer an occasional hour or two over lunchtime? Come and join our pool of volunteers at our homeless centre who serve lunch and support our guests every day of the week between 1-3pm.
Our night shelter will be opening on the 9th of November 2019, across a network of churches in Lewes, for those without housing or in need of support. For this we will require two sets of volunteers:
Those who are able to work on overnight shifts (7.15pm-7.45am), preferably twice a month or more. (There will be comprehensive training and safeguarding in place.)
Volunteers to pack up in the morning (7.45am-10am) and move equipment (beds, bedding etc) to the next location.
More information about our plans for the Winter Night Shelter are available here.
WHAT SPECIAL QUALITIES WOULD I NEED AS A VOLUNTEER?
No experience or special skills are required to volunteer, just empathy, the ability to see and accept people as they are and be a good listener. We do ask for a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check which we can help you apply for.
However, if you do have professional experience supporting some of the most vulnerable people in the community, including those with mental health, or drug and alcohol addictions, and are willing to join the volunteer team, we would love to hear from you.
Whatever your role, you may find that volunteering with us will change your life as much it changes the lives of all the guests you’ll work with.
